각 윤리의 주체가 자유롭게, 그 자신으로서 관철함에도 불구하고 모두에게 똑같이 타당할 선이 과연 존재할 수 있을까? 『선의 캐리커처: 선택과 시선의 틈새에서』(2025)는 인간으로서 우리가 선Good, 善을 향해 품는 여러 기대들이 완벽하게 충족될 수는 없음을 그려내는 철학 에세이이다. 한편으로 선은 우리를 진정한 우리들 자신으로 만들어 주는 자기의 표현물이어야 하지만, 다른 한편으로는 나를 위해서만 작동하는 사적 원칙이 아닌 복수의 개인에 의해 준수될 믿음직스러운 공적 규범이기도 해야 한다. 그러나 시몬 드 보부아르(Simone de Beauvoir, 1908~1986), 시몬 베유(Simone Adolphine Weil, 1909~1943), 그리고 아이리스 머독(Dame Iris Murdoch, 1919~1999)의 사유에 대한 이 책의 개괄과 비판은 선에 대한 우리의 두 기대들이 서로 양립 불가능할 수 있음을 조명한다.

 A Caricature of the Good: (n)either Choice (n)or Vision (2025) captures the impossibility of an ethics that completely fulfills the twofold demand humans make of the good. The daunting question has always been: how may we ever arrive at a good that individuals freely uphold, yet that is valid for all? On the one hand, the good ought to be an expression of individual wills, promoting rather than alienating personal integrity. On the other hand, it ought to function as a reliable, publicly shared norm, not as a principle merely privately cherished. Yet, the philosophical interplay among the three philosophers on which the essay draws—Simone de Beauvoir (1908–1986), Simone Adolphine Weil (1909–1943), and Iris Murdoch (1919–1999)—illuminates how the two demands may essentially be irreconcilable.
